Journal Governance

Policies & Ethics

Our proposed policy framework outlines the principles intended to guide responsible research, editorial conduct, peer review, publication integrity, and transparent scholarly communication.

Policy framework under development

The policies on this page are proposed frameworks for the International Journal of Research and Innovation (IJRI). They have not yet been presented as formally adopted journal policies. Final wording, procedures, and implementation details will be confirmed by the publisher and editorial leadership before manuscript submissions open.

Responsible Publishing

Building trust in scholarly communication

The International Journal of Research and Innovation aims to provide a publication environment that values research quality, academic integrity, responsible authorship, and ethical editorial practices.

These proposed policies are intended to provide a common reference for authors, reviewers, editors, and other participants in the publication process. They will be reviewed and approved before becoming the journal's operational policies.

Manuscripts should be considered objectively without discrimination based on personal or institutional characteristics.

Confidential Handling

Submitted research and editorial communications should be handled with appropriate confidentiality.

Research Integrity

The journal aims to encourage responsible research, transparent reporting, and appropriate acknowledgement of sources.

Policy Directory

Journal policies and guidelines

Review the proposed policy areas below. Each section describes expectations that will be considered during the formal policy approval process.

POLICY 01Proposed

Publication Ethics

The journal intends to maintain responsible editorial and publication practices throughout the research publication process.

Proposed guidelines

  • Authors are responsible for the accuracy and originality of submitted work.
  • Fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, and other forms of research misconduct are not acceptable.
  • Editors and reviewers should evaluate manuscripts fairly and confidentially.
  • Concerns about potential misconduct may be referred for investigation before an editorial decision is made.
POLICY 02Proposed

Peer Review Policy

A double-blind peer-review process is proposed for IJRI. The final review procedure will be published after formal approval.

Proposed guidelines

  • Submissions will first undergo an editorial and scope assessment.
  • Suitable manuscripts are intended to be evaluated by independent subject experts.
  • Reviewer identities and author identities are intended to remain concealed during the review process.
  • Editorial decisions may include acceptance, minor revision, major revision, or rejection.
  • The editorial team will retain responsibility for the final publication decision.
POLICY 03Proposed

Open Access Policy

Diamond Open Access is the proposed publishing model. Under this model, readers would not pay subscription fees and authors would not pay article processing charges.

Proposed guidelines

  • The proposed model aims to make published research accessible to readers.
  • No article processing charge or publication fee should be assumed until the model is formally confirmed.
  • The journal will publish its access terms and licensing conditions before accepting manuscripts.
  • Authors should review the final copyright and licensing terms before submission.
POLICY 04Proposed

Authorship and Contributions

Authorship should reflect genuine scholarly contributions to the research and manuscript.

Proposed guidelines

  • All listed authors should have made a meaningful contribution to the work.
  • All authors should review and approve the final submitted manuscript.
  • The corresponding author should coordinate communication with the editorial office.
  • Contributors who do not meet the authorship criteria may be acknowledged with their permission.
  • Changes to the author list after submission should be explained and agreed to by all affected authors.
POLICY 05Proposed

Plagiarism and Similarity

Submitted manuscripts are expected to demonstrate originality and appropriate acknowledgement of previously published work.

Proposed guidelines

  • Text, figures, tables, datasets, and ideas from other sources must be properly cited.
  • Direct quotations must be clearly identified and attributed.
  • Duplicate publication and inappropriate text reuse are not acceptable.
  • Similarity reports may be used as one part of the editorial assessment.
  • A similarity percentage alone will not determine whether plagiarism has occurred; editorial evaluation is required.
POLICY 06Proposed

Use of Artificial Intelligence

The proposed policy requires transparency when generative AI tools materially contribute to manuscript preparation or research-related content.

Proposed guidelines

  • Authors should disclose material use of generative AI tools where required by the final policy.
  • AI tools must not be listed as authors.
  • Authors remain responsible for the accuracy, originality, references, and integrity of their manuscripts.
  • AI-generated references, data, quotations, and factual statements must be independently verified.
  • Reviewers and editors should protect confidential manuscript information when using external tools.
POLICY 07Proposed

Conflict of Interest

Potential financial, professional, personal, or institutional relationships that could influence the research or editorial process should be disclosed.

Proposed guidelines

  • Authors should disclose relevant financial and non-financial conflicts.
  • Editors should not handle submissions where a conflict could compromise impartiality.
  • Reviewers should declare conflicts before accepting a review assignment.
  • Disclosures should be included in the published article where applicable.
POLICY 08Proposed

Human and Animal Research

Research involving human participants, animals, or sensitive biological material should meet applicable institutional and legal ethics requirements.

Proposed guidelines

  • Authors should identify the relevant ethics committee or institutional review board approval where applicable.
  • Human-participant research should follow appropriate informed-consent requirements.
  • Animal studies should follow applicable institutional and national guidelines.
  • Patient and participant privacy must be protected.
  • Where approval is not applicable, authors should provide an appropriate explanation.
POLICY 09Proposed

Data Availability and Reproducibility

Authors are encouraged to provide sufficient information to support the verification and reproducibility of their research.

Proposed guidelines

  • A data availability statement may be requested for relevant submissions.
  • Research data should be described accurately and responsibly.
  • Confidential, personal, or restricted data should not be shared without appropriate permission.
  • Methods, materials, and analysis procedures should be described with sufficient clarity.
  • Any restrictions on data access should be explained.
POLICY 11Proposed

Corrections and Retractions

The journal intends to establish a transparent process for addressing errors and concerns identified after publication.

Proposed guidelines

  • Minor errors may be addressed through a correction notice where appropriate.
  • Substantial errors affecting the reliability of published findings may require further editorial action.
  • Retractions may be considered when serious concerns undermine the integrity of a publication.
  • Editorial notices should clearly identify the affected article and explain the reason for the action.
POLICY 12Proposed

Confidentiality and Privacy

Information received during manuscript submission and editorial evaluation should be handled responsibly.

Proposed guidelines

  • Unpublished manuscripts should be treated as confidential documents.
  • Reviewer comments and editorial correspondence should not be shared without authorisation.
  • Personal information collected during journal operations should be handled appropriately.
  • Access to editorial records should be limited to individuals involved in the relevant process.

Research Integrity

Questions or ethical concerns?

Authors, reviewers, and readers should be able to raise concerns about research integrity, publication ethics, or editorial conduct through an appropriate communication channel. The journal's formal complaint and appeal procedures will be published after approval.
